Billy Bishop Airport Infrastructure Improvements

4.9m x 3.5m x 1.3m Monobase & Monotop Water Chamber (44 tonnes)

Billy Bishop Airport (Toronto City Airport YTZ) is located on Toronto Island and is an important part of the transportation infrastructure on Toronto’s waterfront as use of the city airport is growing. Annually, more than 2 million people use the airport to travel to and from 80 destinations in Canada and the U.S.

In 2013, construction began on the Billy Bishop Airport infrastructure improvements. Water services on the island dating back to the 1930s were upgraded and water chambers were required so that operations staff can easily enter to manage and maintain the services. The City of Toronto specified the T-1108.01-1 Water Meter Chamber to be installed next to the terminal building. The space on the island construction site was very tight.

We manufactured the City of Toronto water chamber in two sections that could easily be assembled on the job site. The chamber was composed of a monobase and monotop with outside dimensions of 4.9 m long by 3.5 m wide and 1.3 m high. Each section weighed just over 22 tonnes. The sections were delivered on two of our trucks, each travelled across to Toronto Island on the ferry. The placement of all pieces took less than an hour in total!
