47.3m CPCI Girders
Harsh winters are no match for advanced manufacturing of infrastructure products – even when those products are exceptionally large. Construction of the new bridge in Kingston was accelerated thanks to prefabrication of the girders within our 100% controlled, 100% indoor manufacturing facility, where the seasons changing outdoors have no impact on production.
The new Montreal Street Bridge was designed by McCormick Rankin (MMM Group). CPCI 2300 girders were specified for manufacture. The maximum span used for CPCI 2300 girders is generally 45 m. This bridge construction called for a 47.3 m span across the westbound lanes of the 401 and a 40.8 m span across the eastbound lanes of Highway 401. The girders had to be specially designed for transport to ensure stability and maintain girder quality.
A total of eighteen girders were supplier by DECAST. The installation of nine 47.3 m girders was completed on the westbound lanes on December 18, 2013. The following night, nine 40.8 m girders were installed on the eastbound lanes.
