The Welland Canal is a ship canal in Ontario, Canada, connecting Lake Ontario and Lake Erie. It forms a key section of the St. Lawrence Seaway and Great Lakes Waterway. Traversing the Niagara Peninsula from Port Weller to Port Colborne, it enables ships to ascend and descend the Niagara Escarpment and bypass Niagara Falls. A plan had been put in place to modernize the outdated lock system. The project included the full removal of the old timber tie-up walls all the way to the construction of new tie-up walls made of steel and concrete. Over the next four years, at four locations, approximately $100 million was invested to replace the four ship tie-up walls. DECAST supplied 518 copings and 2088 deck slabs.
